Getting Started on a Good Guide to Content Marketing

Writing good, solid content is foundational for an excellent content marketing program.  Otherwise your information will just get lost in the shuffle that is know as the internet.  So how do you do it?  How do you write consistent, engaging, informative content that people want to read?  The best thing to do is find a quiet place and start.

It really is that simple.  Start writing your content and be prepared to fail.  It is suggested that you write your first bits of content fast with no breaks so you can get a feel for your pace.  Then, as time goes on you will be able to modify, edit, and tweak your content to better suit your needs.  Following are some ideas to consider.

Building Great Content

First, find your keywords through Google analytics.  These need to be keywords that are relevant to your site or product.  It might take you a bit to find words that are a good fit for you and that's ok.  Doing your homework on this part is one of the most important steps.  Take your time and find the right keywords. Once you have found your key words, incorporate them into your posts or article according to an appropriate density measurement.  Typically, 2-3 key words mentions per 500 words is adequate.

It is important that you do not try to use the same post in several different venues.  You could have the greatest content in the world, but if it shows up in 16 different places you are not doing yourself any favors.  The internet recognizes this as spam essentially, and your page ranking will not improve.  You should write several different articles using the key words you have identified and spread them across your sites.

Other Things to Consideration

Don't forget about presentation.  Think of this piece of advice along the same line as the old adage “People eat with their eyes first”.  If you have great content that is put into a plain, boring font you might not get much readership.  You need to dress it up a bit.  Deliver the steak, but sell the sizzle!

Using pictures is a great way to make your posts more interesting.  It gives the reader a break and makes the content appear more appealing.  Play around with different font styles and sizes.  Also, use bold words when it is appropriate.  There is a good reason for this.  Time is a commodity for most people.  By highlighting noteworthy words or phrase in your article, people will be drawn to them.  They can quickly gauge that this is material they are interested in and will continue to read the article.

Following the simple steps outlined above will allow you to create content that is engaging, increases readership, and most importantly, gets results.  Your page will rank higher because of your hard work.  Other people who visit your page will refer or share it with their friends further increasing your exposure.  All it takes is the willingness to get started and a bit of patience to get the ball rolling.
